One of the things I love most about being a part of the Disney community is that it truly feels like a community. Disney, similar to other fandoms, in many ways belongs to the fans. You can really see this come to light during Dapper Day, which is an event completely created by fans at the theme parks (even the international ones!) My friends and I dressed up for a delightful day full of cute photos and fun memories for Dapper Day 2018. Keep reading for the highlights!
About Dapper Day
As I mentioned, fans created this event — Disney has nothing to do with it! According to their website, the event was started so that fans could “step out in style” to showcase you at your best. They became famous for their Disneyland and Walt Disney World outings, which now include an expo of vendors.
Outings are held in Spring and Fall at the theme parks, and the event organizers encourage fans to wear their finest attire. Dapper Day started in 2011 and has grown to be an event that fans look forward to all year! Although Disney is not officially affiliated, they are aware of the events and impact they have on the parks. One year, they even released a “Fine and Dandy” limited edition pin that coincided with Spring Dapper Day.
Outfits of Dapper Day
Stepping out in style is the official tagline for the event. While there’s no official dress code, many fans wear their finest vintage inspired styles. The fashion truly takes you back to a different time period and it’s so fun to see the looks people come up with.
Magic Kingdom is the perfect place to be dapper! My friends and I had so much fun taking photos all around our gorgeous kingdom. I will warn you, however, that these events get super busy and lines for popular photo areas (like in front of the Castle and the Purple Wall) get SUPER LONG! This Fall’s Dapper Day was especially busy because it fell on Mickey’s 90th Birthday Weekend. Read more about Mickey’s 90!
Disneybounding is a fun way to show off your best style with a Disney twist! This year, I didn’t dress up as a character, but I saw a ton of inspiration to start planning for next Spring. I wore this super cute dress from Kate Spade, paired with Saltwater Sandals and a Museum of Ice Cream cherry shirt. Plus, no outfit is complete without a pair of Ears!
This was my second Dapper event, and it was just as fun as the first one! Attending has always been on my bucket list especially after seeing everyone’s cute posts on Instagram! One of the coolest parts of being at Dapper Day is most definitely the atmosphere. Any time a bunch of Disney super fans are together, exciting things are bound to happen!
From my experience, meeting other Disney fans during Dapper Day is so much fun! Everyone is so excited to compliment each other on carefully crafted ensembles. It also truly feels like an inclusive day for the community to encourage and include everyone.
On that note, Dapper Day does bring out huge crowds. It was so busy at Magic Kingdom that we ended up parking in the grass at the TTC! Despite the crazy crowds (and my camera dying in the middle of the day- yikes!) Dapper Day 2018 was so much fun and it’s already got me counting down until the Spring outing. Have you ever attended a Dapper event?
