Having the theme parks in my backyard, I’m fortunate enough to be able to visit as much as I want. Spending so much time in the parks, I love to find corners of Disney and discover the little details. This is the first post (of hopefully many) appreciating the Corners of Disney and the incredible thought and theming that went into creating the parks. To start, I’m going to show y’all my favorite details of the Harambe Market area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
The Disney Story
One of the things that sets Disney apart from other theme parks is the incredible story that is behind everything. A fun tip for next time you’re in the theme parks: ask the Cast Members for the story behind the land or restaurant or attraction you’re in. You might be surprised at how detailed everything is thought out!
The theming of Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is no exception. Harambe is a fictional colony that, according to Disney legend, was once run by the Dutch but is now an independent colony, and the destination for those looking for the Animal experiences at Animal Kingdom.
The Harambe Market welcomes visitors from around the world coming to Harambe for the safari expedition! It was fairly recently redone and features delicious counter service meals, relaxing atmosphere and ample seating to relax and enjoy the beauty of Animal Kingdom.
Harambe Market is full of clever details which all tie into the greater story of Africa at Animal Kingdom. The whole area is full of hand-painted signs, including one of my favorites that reads “You are entering a Swahili/English speaking zone” which enforces the theme.
You can most likely catch performances in the area from roaming musicians too. Since the market is a welcoming destination for tourists, you will also find the “Hotel” and goods from locals for sale.
(Side note: I LOVED this Lilly Pulitzer dress around the parks! Great for a hot Florida day and I could still run through the parks no problem!)
Many of the posters and signs will make you smile, either from the silly one-liners including “Did you ever think you may enjoy a sausage?” to the inspirational “It does not matter who you are or where you’re from. We are all children of the world.” This makes me love the area even more. I highly recommend taking some time to walk around and read all of the signs and wall paintings!
Walls of Disney
All honesty, Walls of Disney will forever be my favorite trend. Harambe Market is home to the You Are Most Beautiful Wall and Fichwa! Fellow wall. There are also great backdrops in front of posters or cool patterned walls as well. One tip I have for taking photos around here is to definitely wear solid colors because the backgrounds will be so full of color and patterns!
You Are Most Beautiful is a great inspirational wall and makes for some fun photos! It’s kind of tucked away in the back in a Cast Member hallway, so be sure to stay out of the way of CMs when you’re taking photos here!
The Fichwa Fellow wall is located right on the outside of Harambe Market. In Swahili, “Fichwa” means hidden, so this is a great Hidden Mickey in plain sight! There’s also a fun drink cart right next to this wall that makes for really fun photos too!
Harambe Market Food
Animal Kingdom is my favorite park for food! Harambe Market has some of the best food options, especially for hanging out and enjoying a meal. My favorite snack is the DELICIOUS corn that can be found at the cart right outside of the market! It’s covered in butter and spices but you can still justify it as a healthy snack!
My other favorite find is the Leopard’s Eye alcoholic drink. This tasty slushie drink blends Snow Leopard vodka with Bibo! Also featured as a free taster at Club Cool in Epcot, Bibo is a bright green Kiwi and Mango flavored soda. This is the perfect drink to sip on a hot day in Animal Kingdom!
I know I really appreciate the corners of Disney, and I loved being able to share Harambe Market! This is a great place to sit and relax and take in all of the amazing details of the area. I can’t wait to share the next little Corner of Disney with you all!
