Today’s blog post is a little different from my usual Disney Parks posts, but something I’ve been wanting to share for a long time. For the past two years, I’ve been volunteering at Give Kids the World Village. Give Kids is a nonprofit storybook resort near the theme parks that partners with organizations like Make-A-Wish to grant wishes to children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Volunteering here has changed my life. Getting to make magic for these kids and their families is an incredible experience and I wanted to share a few of my favorite things around the Village with today’s post.
There are so many different types of volunteer shifts at the Village, I’m only going to share a few of my favorites and fun facts for this first post because I could honestly go on forever about how much I love it here. If you’re an Orlando local, an annual passholder who frequents the parks, or maybe looking for a unique experience for your vacation, read on to see some of the cute corners of the village.
I mainly volunteer with entertainment shifts, which can be anything from working with the characters at the village to nightly parties. Working with my favorite 6 foot tall bunny Mayor Clayton is always an incredible experience. My other favorite shift is working the Winter Wonderland parade and getting to dress up and dance and sing with families.
The Castle of Miracles is amazing inside and out. Each wish child gets to create a star, and Stellar the Star Fairy places it inside the castle. The stars always stay up as a reminder of the trip and memories made. It’s a really powerful place to volunteer and there’s amazing interaction with the families.
Amberville is another fun area to volunteer in! This is the arcade section of the village, with tons of unlimited play arcade games, a bowling alley, video games, a mini train set, a full size train to ride and a mini golf course!
Julie’s Safari Theatre is a cool spot where families can watch movies in a private theater, oftentimes showing Disney movies while they’re still showing in theaters, like Avengers: Infinity War or Incredibles 2!
The whole area has an incredible energy and filled with the most incredible people from the volunteers to the visiting families.
Volunteering at the Village is an incredible experience that’s impossible to put into words. There are so many ways to get involved too, from donating directly, to participating in fun fundraisers. My friends and I tried to ride all of the rides at Disney in one day to try and raise money for the village. See it on my Twitter, or in my blog post about it!
